Alumni Spotlight: Alumni Board Members
The Foundation is fortunate to have five alumni serving on our Board of Directors in the 2017-18 year. The presence of alumni in our governing body ensures the continuity of institutional memory, and helps to create invaluable links between former students and current parents. Learn a little more about our alumni Board members:
In addition to her service on the Board, Faith Alejandro (’01) chairs the Governance Committee and sits on the Alumni Steering Committee and the Executive Committee. Faith is an attorney at Sands Anderson and is married to a fellow GSGIS grad, Chris Nixon (’01), with whom she has two children. She was recently named to the 2017 “Up & Coming Lawyers” list by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, which recognizes lawyers across the commonwealth who are making their mark within their first 10 years of practice.
Bryce Lyle (’99) is a member and past Chair of the Alumni Steering Committee. In addition to his work as the Liaison for The Honorable Kristen N. Larson. Richmond City Council, 4th District, Bryce is an advocate for public education in the Richmond area. He will also be serving on the MLWGS School Advisory Council in the upcoming school year and on the Foundation’s Alumni Steering Committee.
Leo Rohr (’99) is the Chair of the Alumni Steering Committee and also serves on the Marketing Committee. He works as the Marketing Manager for the American Civil War Museum.
Karen Principe Setzer (’99) is the newest alumna to join the Board. She will also be joining the Finance Committee. Karen is a CPA and works as a Compliance Analyst at Virginia529 College Savings Plan.
Amy Weiss (’03) serves on the Alumni Steering Committee in addition to her Board service. She has also served as a member of the Alumni Showcase Committee. Amy is an attorney at the Social Security Administration.
The Class of 1999 is not only the best represented on the Board. It’s also the class that boasts the highest giving percentage each year. In 2016-17, 71% of the Class of 1999 gave to the Foundation’s Annual Fund, more than double the overall alumni giving rate of 30%.
We’re also pleased to have four alumni joining Foundation committees. Misty Clark (’96) and Alex Wiles (’08) are joining our Development Committee. Alex Wiles is a Commonwealth Circle Liaison at Community Idea Stations. Misty also serves on the Alumni Steering Committee, headed up the 2016 Reunions Weekend planning committee, and solicited items for the 2017 Night of the Dragon auction. Alex Guzmán (’07) is joining the Alumni Steering Committee. Alex serves as the Director of Fair Housing at Housing Opportunities Made Equal of Virginia. Kathleen Kostandin (’07) is joining our Events Committee. Kathleen has professional experience in event planning and planned our 2016 Alumni Holiday Party. She is also planning the 10-year reunion for her graduating class.
Thank you to our alumni Board and committee volunteers! We’re looking forward to a great year.
