A Year of Alumni

December 31, 2017 / Catherine Nicholas / Blog

2017 was a big year for the Governor’s School Foundation’s role as the alumni office.  Thanks to everyone who helped to make it what it was!  Here’s some of what we did this past year:

  • Profiled more than 30 alumni
  • Broke the alumni fundraising record when alumni donated $81,000 in the 2016-17 fiscal year
  • Hosted the Classes of 1997, 2002, 2007, and 2012 for Reunions Weekend 2017
  • Organized alumni happy hours in New York, San Francisco, DC, and Richmond
  • Collected amazing alumni contributions for the 2017 Night of the Dragon
  • Recruited alumni speakers to talk to accepted students at Future Dragon Days
  • Connected dozens of members of the Class of 2017 with alumni of the various colleges and universities they were considering attending
  • Connected dozens of alumni with other alumni in their fields of work
  • Connected college-aged alumni with internship opportunities submitted by other alumni
  • Connected the Class of 2017 with their commencement speaker, Kyle Healy (’03)
  • Assembled a Memory Book for Sharon Parker full of kind words from the many alumni she helped shape through her dedication to the mentorship program
  • Lobbied with current students for a budget amendment to provide more equitable funding to MLWGS
  • Welcomed new alumni members onto our Board of Directors and onto several committees
  • Started recruiting for and planning Alumni Showcase 2018

There’s SO much more to come in 2018, including some big announcements!  Your support make everything we do possible.  Happy New Year to all our alumni!
