Grant Spotlight: books for We the People

December 13, 2017 / Catherine Nicholas / Blog

In addition our commitment to offset the cost of the We the People team’s trip to nationals by $20,000, the Foundation is supporting those students in other ways.  We set aside $22,000 this fiscal year to support enhancements that enrich classroom instruction across all departments.  Sam Ulmschneider (’02) received funding through this category to purchase sets of constitutional law books for classroom use.  Students will now have access to Constitutional Law and Politics: Struggles for Power and Governmental Accountability and Constitutional Law and Politics: Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, both by UVA professor David O’Brien, to add to their understanding of Supreme Court cases that have shaped our nation.  This year’s We the People team won the Central Virginia regional competition already, and they are headed to states in January.

Contributions to the 2017-18 annual fund help us give the MLWGS faculty the chance to provide opportunities like this throughout the year.
