Canadian Senate Speaker George Furey with MLWGS students

Spring means lots of Foundation funding for student travel.  This year, we committed to offsetting the cost of class-related trips for students traveling to Morocco (MENA senior seminar), Canada (AP Comparative Government), Phoenix (Math Modeling), and DC (We the People).  The combined enhancement grants for these four trips total just over $57,000, all of which goes to reduce or eliminate the cost for participating students and their families.

Matt McGuire and Dan Brown recently returned from chaperoning AP Comparative Government students on the annual Canada trip to Ottawa and Toronto.  Students visited key Canadian governing institutions and met with political leaders, like Canadian Senate Speaker George Furey and Canadian Foreign Minister the Hon. John R. Baird, P.C.  One of the major goals of the trip is to show students the differences between a presidential and parliamentary system, as well as the differences and similarities between American and Canadian political culture.

The Foundation is proud to offset the cost for class-related travel, and we’re particularly pleased to be able to support the mission of the school by allowing students the opportunity to travel internationally.  We can’t do it without your support.  Make a gift to the 2017-18 Annual Fund to help ensure that we can continue to commit to providing significant funding for opportunities like these that make MLWGS a unique place to learn.
