John Marshall House A grant from the MLWGS Foundation covered the entry fee to the John Marshall house for Mr. Wilkes’ Historiography students at the end of September.  John Marshall, the fourth Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, built the house in what is now downtown Richmond and lived there for 45 years until his death in 1835.  In his role as Chief Justice, he was instrumental in shaping the Supreme Court into what it is today, especially in establishing the principle of judicial review via his famous opinion in Marbury v. Madison.
