Grant Spotlight: MCM Math Modeling Competition

On Monday, January 28, twelve of Mr. Benesh's math modeling students will be participating in the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications' Mathematical Contest in Modeling.  This is a college-level competition that will include about 20,000 teams competing worldwide.  A grant from the MLWGS Foundation covered the registration fees for all students participating.  We'll be rooting for them!

Mr. Benesh's baseball math modeling students are back from their research trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY!  Students conducted research at the Giamatti Research Center, which is the foremost repository of baseball information, in all formats, in the world.  They were working on their papers that will address an aspect of the impact of baseball on America. The MLWGS Counseling Office is administering Oxford and Cambridge admissions assessments this morning for interested students.  Though Maggie Walker sends by far the bulk of its graduates to colleges and universities in the United States, seniors do sometimes choose to pursue higher education abroad.  Application and admissions processes at international colleges and universities are often handled very differently than they are in the US.  Our counselors are now better equipped to help student interested in attending college abroad

Grant Spotlight: Pizza Pizza Pizza!

Sometimes our enhancement grants pay for 3-D printers, and sometimes they pay for a nice bunch of pizzas.  The Foundation provided a grant to cover lunch for summer booster camp students so that they could have a chance to reconnect with each other and check in with the faculty members who run the camp for incoming MLWGS freshmen.  We raise a slice to all of our annual fund donors who helped make these pies possible!
