January 2025- The MLWGS Foundation’s Annual Fund directly supports transformative experiences for our students, including four recent trips taken by Dragons to Charlottesville, New York, Philadelphia, and Orlando.
In early December, MLWGS’ We The People team visited Philadelphia’s National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, and other historical sites, enriching their understanding of the Constitution. Having won regionals, they are busy preparing for the state and national competitions.
Fashion Senior Seminar students explored New York’s fashion scene, from exhibitions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Arts and Design to the Garment District and the Broadway musical “Six,” where the students saw how costume design reinforced the storytelling of each of Henry VIII’s wives. “With the Foundation’s help, everyone who wanted to participate was able to enjoy learning in the fashion capital of the world,” says Georgianne Stinnett, fashion seminar and art teacher. “Thanks [Foundation] for making this valuable part of the curriculum possible.”
At the state Model United Nations Conference held at the University of Virginia, our GSMUN team excelled, earning 13 awards while fostering growth in diplomacy, critical thinking, and public speaking — especially among first-time participants.
More than 100 Dragons and chaperones travelled to Orlando, Jan. 17-21, to participate in Disney’s !magination Campus performing arts program. The Foundation partnered with the Music Department to fundraise for the trip and provided additional student financial support so all interested music students could participate.
