This year, the MLWGS faculty has applied for nearly $25,000 worth of Foundation support in the category of classroom instructional activities.  Funding in this category is available for supplemental activities or materials that teachers would like to use to enrich their instruction.  In March, English instructor Janet Spencer received a grant to cover the cost of bus transportation for all seniors plus all students in John Piersol’s Drama class to see a performance of Hamlet at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, VA.

A separate grant will also pay for bus transportation for the entire freshmen class to Staunton to see Macbeth on May 10th.  Anyone who has seen a performance at the American Shakespeare Center knows what an incredible resource it is for the state of Virginia.  Together, these two grants totaled $8500 and will impact approximately 350 students.
