Annual Fund Donations

We are grateful for your generous support of the Governor’s School Foundation, a 501c(3) organization, through our Annual Fund Campaign.

You can now make a one-time annual fund donation via PayPal/Venmo or make a recurring or one-time gift using your credit card. See below for ways to make your gift.

The Foundation’s Annual Fund provides essential and unique academic enrichment opportunities and improvements that benefit ALL STUDENTS and help set Maggie Walker apart from other schools. Much of the international and domestic travel opportunities, student financial assistance, new technologies, and award-winning academic competition experiences that are a hallmark of MLWGS are made possible by the Foundation Annual Fund. MLWGS teachers also have access to funding to enrich their classroom instruction, positively impacting every student.

Annual Fund gifts in 2023-25 will help us reach our goal of raising $375,000 overall to directly support the following:

  • student participation in curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities;

  • international and domestic student travel;

  • professional development and continuing education for our teachers

  • classroom and instructional enhancements

  • aid for students in financial need.

Your contributions have a huge impact on the school and its students, and all donations are tax-deductible. Foundation contributors at $750 and above are invited to participate in Director’s Circle Events.

You can make your gift online or see below for info about making your gift via check, donating stock, and making a matching gift.

OTHER WAYS TO SUPPORT MLWGS

Pavers, Boosters, PTSA

Celebrate Your Dragon! Buy Your Paver Now!

The Foundation invites families of seniors and graduates to purchase an inscribed paver to leave a lasting tribute at the school. This is a great way to honor your student and support the great work done by the Foundation. You can purchase either a Bluestone Lobby paver inside the school lobby or a brick paver in the garden surrounding the Maggie Lena Walker bust on the Lombardy Street walkway.

Donate to MLWGS Booster Groups

Donating to a Booster group is another way that parents can assist current students with specific extra- and co-curricular school experiences at Maggie L Walker Governor’s School.  The current Booster groups are Athletic Boosters, Drama Boosters, Music Boosters, and Visual Arts Boosters.

JOIN THE PTSA!

“I give because education is the foundation our children build on and because the nourishing community of other students, coaches, teachers and administrators at the school is among the best in the world. MLWGS is one of the best high schools in the nation and operates on an extremely tight budget without the full financial support of a county or city. MLWGS relies on a public/ private partnership to help meet extra needs that other schools might meet by a bond for example. Every student at MLWGS should have the resources they need to reach their potential and the faculty need support in their continuing education to be the best teachers in the state. Thank you MLWGS and thank you MLWGS Foundation for making all of this possible!”

Liz Blue , PARENT, CLASS OF , '19, '21

Having the opportunity to attend this school changed my life. I feel that giving to the Foundation helps increase the opportunities for current students to find their passions and excel.

Leo Rohr, CLASS OF 1999

I view donations to MLWGS as investments in kids who are in one of the most formative times of their lives. Having educated people in our society is crucial, and this is a pretty easy way to help that happen. In addition, the funds of the Foundation are overseen by an executive director and a volunteer Board, so I feel comfortable they’re being applied towards the mission of the school.

Brian Baird, PARENT, CLASS OF 2019

When I graduated from the Governor’s School, I assumed that my college years would be the most transformational of my life. But when I look back now, I realize that it was my time at the Governor’s School  that made me who I am today, and for that I will be forever grateful.

Bailey Thomson , CLASS OF 2006

“Those of us who wish to make a positive impact in our communities while we are alive have many choices. Investing in the education of vigorous scholars allows us to make a lasting impact on thousands of lives, in many fields, for a generation and longer.”

Julie May , PARENT, CLASS OF 2008, 2012
