Alumni Support for the Class of 2020

Our Class of 2020 Dragons were unable to gather together for some of the traditional hallmarks of senior year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But they are resilient and join the wonderful and welcoming group of Governor’s School alumni. Members of the Classes of 2000 and 2010 wanted to offer some words of encouragement to the newest alumni to join this inspiring group!

Class of 2020 – take time for yourself and know you don’t need to have everything figured out right now. The world is in limbo, but you can take this time to focus on your strengths, work on your weaknesses and hit the ground running when it starts turning again. From the Class of 2010, good luck and know we will support you however we can!

-Adam Powers, Class of 2010

You don’t want your little light to never shine.
Change it
Turn it up on bright and get your goals in line.
There’s a great new world out there
For those who dare to claim it.
A better day is on the way and only you can change it.
(“Change It” by Dolly Parton)

-Neha Bhatnagar, Class of 2000

Remember that opportunity comes in a variety of different forms, and that “hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard.” This mantra has served me well and is a useful reminder when work and life get difficult.

-Tyler Gibson, Class of 2010

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! Well done. Enjoy your next chapter and remember that there are no substitutes for experiences. Explore, play, discover — and then tell us all about it!

-Emily Stegmaier Winbigler, Class of 2000
