One of the things that makes MLWGS a unique place to learn is the foreign language class offerings.  As technology changes, language instruction changes as well.  In 2016-17, the Foundation purchased 32 webcams to facilitate online exchange programs that pair native speakers of various languages with MWLGS students to cultivate conversational skills.  This year, Chinese teacher Sharon Meng applied for an enhancement grant to purchase a subscription The Chairman’s Bao, an online resource for Chinese language learners.  This subscription gives Sharon and her students access to the large number of listening and reading resources available through the platform.

Many alumni who began their Chinese language education at Governor’s School have gone on to live and work in China or other countries with significant Chinese-speaking populations.  Rick Carew (’00), for example, worked for many years at the Wall Street Journal’s Hong Kong bureau.  You can read about two young alumni studying and working in China here.  The Foundation is proud to support teachers like Sharon Meng as they work to enrich their classroom instruction for the benefit of all their students.

The 2018-19 Annual Fund supports all of our enhancement grants.  Make your gift here.
